Helpful Hints:
You know of a display, but aren't sure of the GPS point or address? Not a problem! Just visit this site: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html and scroll to the area where the display is, and copy the GPS point.
You're interested in the "Get the Latitude and Longitude of a Point" section after you moved the marker to the general location, copy the GPS information into the Latitude and Longitude on the Light entry form, and submit.
An address or GPS point is required, this is what marks the location of the display. Without one of the 2 of these the display can not be posted.
Tips for getting an address:
Visit during the day! You'll be able to better see the address posted on the house, or a mailbox. The address does not have to be exact, but close as possible. Of course, using the site above to locate the house helps. You can use the Satelite or Hybrid option, to see the number of houses from a corner etc. The Hybrid option uses maps and satelite, the satelite option just show's the satelite display.
If all else fails, contact us and let us know the street or general area. One of our staff members will visit the area and post it!
Tips for noting addresses:
- Download our Paper
Entry Form this will allow you to note 6 locations, per side. Just download
an print the form, and take it with you.
- Use a video or audio recorder. Using an audio recorder is a great way to
keep track of locations, as well as descriptions of the display. This makes
it much easier and faster than writing them down. If you do use a video recorder
and get some video Contact
Us we may put the video on the website!
Tips for finding a location:
Need help finding the location? No address? Not sure
what the waypoint is? This site will help:
http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html
Just drag the marker to the general area then zoom in
and finish dragging it to the area in question. This will get you as accurate
as possible. Then once you've zoomed in, and moved the marker to the correct
location, copy and paste the Latitude and Longitude from the section marked:
Get the Latitude and Longitude of a Point. The numbers will look similar to
this:
Latitude: 41.918113942415026
Longitude: -83.3968037366867
Keep in mind we are only concerned with 6 places after the decimal point, so
the rest is not needed. You don't need to go as many as 6, but 6 is all that
the website will accept. The more you use, the more accurate it will be.
The above GPS point is the Custer Statue at the corner of Elm and Monroe.
